How do I place a commission?
Head to the Commissions page, choose your size from the dropdown, and add to cart. Once your order is placed I'll be in touch to collect your photo and discuss the details.
How long does a portrait take?
Current turnaround is 2–3 weeks from order confirmation, though this may be longer during busier periods. If you need your portrait by a specific date, just mention it at the time of ordering and I'll do my best to accommodate you.
What size should I choose?
If you're unsure, the 8x8" Square is a great all-rounder — it gives plenty of detail without being too large. For two pets, the 5x7" Landscape or 8x10" Landscape works best as it gives both animals the space they deserve.
What photo should I send?
A good photo makes all the difference. Natural light is best — outdoors on a cloudy day or near a bright window. Get down to your pet's eye level, turn portrait mode off, and make sure the full face is in sharp focus. Not sure which photo to use? Send a few and I'll help you choose.
Is my portrait an original painting?
Yes, always. Every portrait is painted entirely by hand using Schmincke Horadam professional watercolours. No prints, no AI, no shortcuts. Each one comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Will the colours fade over time?
No. I use Schmincke Horadam professional watercolours, chosen specifically for their exceptional lightfastness. The colours are built to resist fading for generations — even up to a hundred years and beyond.
Can I see the portrait before it's sent?
Yes. I'll always send you a proof before anything is dispatched, so you can be completely happy before it arrives.
How is my portrait delivered?
All UK orders are sent via Royal Mail Tracked 48. International orders are welcome — postage costs will be confirmed before your order is placed.
Will I be charged customs fees or import taxes?
We do our best to cover any additional customs fees or import taxes on international orders, however this depends on your country's postal rules and regulations. Please make yourself aware of the rules in your country, as any unexpected customs or duty fees are ultimately the responsibility of the buyer.
Is it possible to get a portrait in time for Christmas?
Yes, but spaces are limited. Please place your commission by 1st December to guarantee delivery in time for Christmas, subject to availability.
Can I order as a gift?
Absolutely — a pet portrait makes a truly special gift. Just mention it at checkout and I can arrange gift wrapping.
Do you paint cats and other animals?
Yes! While dogs are my speciality, I paint all pets. Get in touch and we can talk through your commission.
Do portraits come framed?
Portraits arrive unframed, giving you the freedom to choose a frame that suits your home.
What are your payment options?
Payment is taken securely through the website at the time of ordering. Klarna is available if you'd like to spread the cost.
Who owns the copyright?
As the artist, I retain the copyright of all work I create — this is standard practice. You, of course, own the original painting.
I love to use your portrait (once you've approved it) to share on my social channels and add to my portfolio. Occasionally this may extend to greeting cards, thank-you notelets, postcards, or future licensing and portfolio use — but I'll always keep you in the loop along the way, and we'll chat about this during the painting process.
