I paint pets for a living, and I still can't quite believe I get to say it. It all began with my two dachshunds, Daisy and Daphne — my first muses and most demanding critics. There's no AI here and no shortcuts, just real human hands, a brush, and a lot of love.
This is slow living, put onto paper: painted by the sea, with a black coffee always within reach. More than a painting, it's a little piece of them to keep — long after the photo was taken.
a few little things about me ~
coffee order ~
A long black, strong — a habit from my Australian days, best drunk by the sea. Sundays call for a dirty soy chai.
my studio ~
The kitchen table of a little cottage by the sea, up north. Very Carrie Bradshaw — art feeds me more than the table ever did.
my first portraits ~
Daisy & Daphne, painted for a dachshund gallery in my bathroom — it's how I found my creative side again.
favourite detail to paint ~
Their little noses. So much texture, so many tones.
always within reach ~
A black coffee, a Coke Zero, and a romance series humming away in the background.
the best part of the job ~
The messages that arrive after a painting does.
in three words ~
Creative, dreamer, smiley.
a secret skill ~
Solo travelling — I have a knack for finding the prettiest places.

From there, I'll start painting — and I'll share progress along the way, so you get to watch your pet quietly come to life. When it's finished, it arrives painted on professional-quality watercolour paper, with its very own certificate of authenticity, wrapped and posted with care.
Gift wrapping is available too, if it's a surprise. If your pet has a look you'd hate to ever forget, that's exactly what I'm here for. I can't wait to meet them.
Every original Cheyne Atelier watercolour is accompanied by a hand-signed, individually numbered certificate of authentication — recording the title, pigments, paper, and the date your portrait left the studio. A promise that what you hold was painted once, by hand, for you.

I ordered a painting of a miniature dachshund as a birthday present. Gemma outdid any expectations. As a treat I had it gift wrapped and received a smaller watercolour too, which I'm saving for custom greeting cards. You can tell there's a real passion in the art, and it was lovely to watch it develop through the progress updates. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a special gift.

Absolutely stunning work! Gemma captured our Dalmatian perfectly — every little detail is spot on. My fiancé and I are completely blown away by how beautifully she brought him to life. It's more than just a drawing; it truly feels like she's captured his spirit. We'll treasure this forever.

Nothing but great words to say! The communication was excellent and the finished product was more than I could have imagined. I immediately framed it and got it up on my wall — it's an amazing piece of art and a beautiful painting of my fur babies.

I couldn't have asked for a more perfect watercolour of my cavapoo Max — it captures his personality perfectly! Quality paper, perfect depiction, and it even comes with a cute certificate of authenticity. Would highly recommend for a gift. I absolutely love it!

Gemma painted my golden retriever Alfie and the likeness to the photo I shared is unreal. She's so talented, and it's evident she deeply cares and loves what she does — she was also so lovely to deal with. A gorgeous portrait of my fur baby that I will treasure forever!
